Buckley Old Engine Show Rally

August 18 – 22, 2010

Rally Hosts:
Kay and Henry Hauffe
Ken and AnneMarie Wellock

Over 30 RV’s converged on the Northwestern Michigan Fairgrounds to gather together for a combination Mooners Ice Cream ShopMichigan/Louisiana Travel Supreme Rally. Along with the Michigan Club and Louisiana Club we also had guests and drive-ins (I think these were friends of Henry and Kay). Hosts were Henry and Kay Hauffe along with Ken and Anne Marie Wellock. Our hosts did an exceptional job keeping us organized and feeding us starting with a spaghetti dinner on Wednesday evening. After dinner we all (well most of us) went to Mooners for homemade ice cream.

During our stay at the rally we were on our own to visit the Old Engine Show in Buckley, MI which was about 10 miles down the road. Everyone went when it was convenient for them from Thursday until Sunday. During those days if you didn’t go to the Old Engine Show some visited downtown Traverse City while others just took off to explore the beautiful areas and towns of Lake Michigan in this area. The shops and restaurants are abundant and extremely good. The lake shores are beautiful along Lake Michigan.Olive Garden!

Thursday evening we were on our own for dinner. Most everyone went to eat Mediterranean Food while others opted for the more traditional restaurants. But we all ended back out for ice cream trying another location this night.

Cook Helpers!

Friday everyone went their own way again. Cooks - Hosts: Ken and HenryDowntown Traverse City was a fun place to visit with their excellent eating establishments and fun stores along Front Street. The shoreline was beautiful as well with beaches, a park and a marina. The park had a little train you could ride just to add to your entertainment. That night Ken and Henry along with many helper’s fried catfish, cut fresh potatoes for curly fries and fresh corn on the cob forWe had FRESH fried curley potatoes our evening meal. It sure looked like a lot of hard work which sure paid off for the great meal they served.

Potluck line

Saturday again some took off to explore, but the evening was a potluck dinner and with no sign-up sheet it sure was a great meal with many varieties of food. We all were so stuffed as we walking out of the meeting room where we ate. Thanks to everyone for donating such wonderful food.

Sunday everyone finished up touring any place they hadn’t been to. Traverse City and the surrounding towns are just so quant and historical. Every night there was a bonfire for anyone who wanted to sit out after dark.

Monday morning we had coffee and donuts and said our good-byes. Everyone went on their way which included, going back to their home, continue traveling, meeting up with other friends, and some continued staying at the fairgrounds for some good old r & r.

It was a great time especially getting together with old friends from both the Louisiana and Michigan Clubs. Thank you to both Hauffe’s and Wellock’s for putting this rally together.
