COCHON
DE LAIT RALLY
May 10-14,
2007
NO HOST, NO RALLY FEE
One
little piggy, two little piggies, three little piggies, etc....
After a fun rally at the Corps of Engineers Park
in Colfax, Louisiana, twelve rigs headed for the Cochon
de Lait Festival in Mansura, Louisiana. Cochon de
Lait means "milk fed pig". And, you guessed
it, this festival is one big pig roast. This year marked the 33rd
anniversary of the festival. The Cochon de Lait
is a family oriented festival. It offers carnival rides, various
contests (try hog calling and hog imitation) and lots of food
and music.
Our group used the Paragon Casino RV Park in
Marksville, La as the base for our "Gathering". A "Gathering"
is a rally where everyone just shows up for a festival, event
or just to get together. Nothing is planned, other than arrangements
for parking, and the entire rally is free form. It is an interesting
concept and worked out well for this event.
Most of the group who arrived on May 6 and welcomed
the opportunity to just "chill" for a few days before
the festival started on May 10. Since we were camped at the Paragon
Casino, some of our group "dropped" a few coins in the
casino slots. Some even won a few dollars - or at least - that's
what they claimed.
Saturday morning breakfast was Pain Perdue
and ham. Pain Perdue is what Cajuns
call French toast. This particular recipe came from Lou's secret
recipe file. The rest of Saturday was spent in going to the festival
and sampling the roast pig and other food. On Sunday, the festival
serves a complete meal of roast pork with trimmings. Everyone,
whom I spoke to that ate lunch, said the food was delicious and
plentiful.
When all the dust settled, this "Gathering" turned out
to be a great rally with something for everyone.
