New Year's Rally... Y2K+10
10284 Hwy 17
Oak Grove, Louisiana

December 29, 2009 - January 2, 2010

New Year Hosts
Hosts:
Linda and Polk Brian
Rosalyn and Bud Odom

Have you ever been to Poverty Point?  We have.  This is a Louisiana State Historic Site named by its early owner because the yield of cotton was much lower than the surrounding delta area.  He called this area his Poverty Point Plantation.  Turns out the reason for the low yields of cotton were due to the Stone Age soil.  Also, did you know this area contains some of the oldest Indian mounds (approx. 1700 B.C. or 3700 B.P.) and the largest single Indian mound in Louisiana?  Incidentally, 3700 B.P. means 3700 years Before the Present.  That is the politically correct way to express dates now.  Can you believe it?

Cotton Museum - Chris FisherAlso we got a tour of the Louisiana State Cotton Museum.  The museum told the story of raising cotton from plantation times in the South until the present including the latest in cotton picking technology.  Good for all you cotton-pickers!  We also visited a candy cane and peanut patty factory.  You couldn’t stand in one place very long without sticking to the floor.  I think that everyone took some candy home even after seeing it made!

 Bud and Rosalyn Odom

This rally had the right balance of tours, fellowship and food.  We found a new chef, Chef Bud, in our group.  He and his Rosalyn gave us a big helping of Sheppard’s Pie the first night which was really good.  Linda and Polk and Bud and Rosalyn did a super job as our rally hosts.  It was very evident that a lot of planning and hard work went in to making this a great rally.

The talent show on New Year’s Eve made some new discoveries in our club.  Ask someone about the fellow with the loose diaper, Patsy Cline and her “Exhibits”, George and Gracie and their “jokes”, and all the other special talent exhibited.  Many thanks to the performers to gave us lots of laughs and some good memories of 2009.  After the talent show, we enjoyed more food and then welcomed the New Year on Eastern Standard Time.

Gift ExchangeWe enjoyed exchanging gifts and I mean exchanging.  The one with the scarf had more miles on it from switching owners than a cash-for-clunkers trade-in (Chris ended up with it due to a superb strategy and I also ended up with one of Rosalyn’s pecan pies (I stole this from Linda several times).

Oh, I almost forgot, we had 20 rigs including 4 guest rigs.  Those attending included Cooks, Yandts, Hauffes, Jurischs, Reeses, Brians, Odoms, Smiths (James and Gail), Brattons, Rickles, Lacours, Waters, Bruces (Jack, Linda, Mike, and Olivia), Fishers, Evans, and guests Langs, Melancons, Smiths (Hesse and Jerry), and former members Bernie and Carol Lezell.  Quite a crew, wouldn’t you say?
